You'll find our Lake of the Ozarks resort deep in the Ozark Mountains of southwest Missouri. WorldMark Lake of the Ozarks is a lake vacation rental that overlooks a bluff-lined shore, offering a scenic view of Lake of the Ozarks State Park on the other side of the water.
"The Lake of the Ozarks has a longer shoreline than the state of California has coastline," says Steve Hall, the resort manager at this lake vacation rental. "A lot of people are surprised when they hear this."
[Full Disclosure: I was surprised to hear this.]
It's true, though. In fact, with a shoreline approximately 1,150 miles long, it's over 300 miles longer than the California coast. The forces that created this lake include a dam that was built across the Osage River to generate electricity in 1931 and the unique geological history that created the low-lying mountains that surround it.
"One of the most popular things people like to do here is visit Ha Ha Tonka State Park," Hall says. "It's an amazing place where you can hike along trails that take you by natural springs and along deep gorges, and you can see natural stone bridges. It's really something to see."
"The fishing is fantastic. Some of the best you'll ever experience. Largemouth bass, white bass and crappie are some of the main reasons avid fishermen come here."
Thousands of years ago, a vast network of rivers and lakes was hidden underground in the area of the Ozark Mountains. At some point, the earth above it collapsed, creating steep, jagged gorges that eventually became weathered and overgrown. This geological process left a scenic landscape that has been drawing awestruck visitors for more than a century. Science!
According to Hall, however, the lake is the main attraction at WorldMark Lake of the Ozarks.
"The fishing is fantastic," he said. "Some of the best you'll ever experience. Largemouth bass, white bass, and crappie are some of the main reasons avid fishermen come here. And there are plenty of really experienced charters on the lake that you can hire. So even if you don't have a lot of fishing experience, you can have a good time at it here."
Guests staying at this Lake of the Ozarks resort enjoy access to the private dock with plenty of boating slips. It's also perfect for taking a cup of coffee out in the morning and enjoying the sunrise as it peeks over the bluffs. And if your fishing preference is for more of a leisurely experience, you can grab your fishing pole and toss a line in the water right from the dock.
"The Lake of the Ozarks is the center of everything around here," Hall says. "People love to get in their boats and just tour the lake. There are so many little spots where you can drop anchor and just enjoy the scenery and the peace and quiet. It's a great place to relax."
