Try an afternoon or evening at the Disney Resorts

One of my favorite things to do in Orlando as a local is explore one the Disney Resort Hotels, like the Boardwalk Resort.
It’s a great alternative for a day when you don’t have a park ticket. Each of the hotels is uniquely themed and has great restaurants and shops. The Boardwalk is located around a lake along with Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club resort and the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. You can walk around the lake, enjoying the scenery or you can rent a surrey bike to make the lap.
If you’re there for dinner you can see the Epcot fireworks from the area around the lake. I recommend making a reservation for one of the restaurants, such as the Big River Grill and Brewing Works at the Boardwalk resort and then enjoying some of the many shops and the fantastic bakery at the Boardwalk. Or try tackling the “Kitchen Sink” at Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club Resort. It’s over 20 scoops of ice cream with every topping you can imagine and of course plenty of whipped cream and cherries.
Also there is Disney’s Fantasia mini-golf course is a short walk from the Swan and Dolphin hotels. It’s a wonderfully themed course with all of the characters from Disney’s Fantasia.
This Disney resort area, and others like it, makes for a fun afternoon or evening out without going into the parks or spending another day at Downtown Disney.
