You're coming all the way to Hawaii, make it count! Grab one of my vacation rentals in Kauai and enjoy an island hopping adventure to Maui and the Big Island while you're here.
Kaua'i, the "Garden Island," is the northernmost island of Hawaii and lies about one hour away from Maui by plane. WorldMark Kapa'a Shore is sited on what is known as the Coconut Coast, the center of the hospitality industry on Kaua'i's east side. My vacation rental in Kauai offers 49 one- and two-bedroom units with ceiling fans (no air conditioning), and while its a waterfront resort, swimming here is unwise so an outdoor pool and spa satisfy immediate water-based needs. The resort also has tennis and shuffleboard courts.

Sail: Unless you feel like hiking 22 miles, the best way to see Kaua'i's mind-boggling Na Pali Coast State Park with its magnificent cliffs and waterfalls is by boat. Whether by ketch or catamaran, surrender to the sail and you can sip on a cocktail while you ooh and aah your way along the coast. (50 miles from resort)
Shop: One of the retail jewels on the main strip of Kapa'a town is Kela's Glass Gallery, with an extensive inventory of exquisite handmade glass vases, bowls and objet d'art created by more than 50 different artists. (0.9 miles from resort)
Snack: The frosty delicious sweet Hawaiian treat of shave ice is the snow cone made magic. Halo Halo Shave Ice's frozen powder comes saturated with sweet fruit syrups and other exotic essences. (2956 Kress Street, Lihue; 8.1 miles from resort)
Sniff: The largest collection of rare and endangered flora in the world resides at 186-acre Lawai Gardens, containing the Allerton and McBryde collections of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Breathe deep. (Poipu; 21 miles from resort)
Snorkel: Superb shoreline snorkeling can be found throughout Kaua'i, but Anini Beach is particularly safe, shallow and home to hundreds of multicolored saltwater tropicals. (Kalihiwai; 20.8 miles from resort)
Swim: With golden sand 50 yards wide and a quarter-mile long, Kalapaki Beach is the best beach on the entire east coast. Safe for swimmers but with no lifeguard, the facilities include free parking, restrooms, showers and cheap snacks and beverages at nearby Kalapaki Beach Hut. (Lihue; 8.2 miles from resort)
Swing: Jack Nicklaus himself designed the immaculate 18 holes of Kaua'i Lagoons Golf Course that takes players through a mango forest on the front nine and resort-lovely landscaping on the back. (8 miles from resort)
Kaua'i: Lihue Airport (LIH), 7 miles from WorldMark Kapa'a Shore. Mainland and inter-island flights.
Carriers: Major airlines offering flights from the mainland to all three WorldMark resort islands include Alaska, American, United, US Airways and Canadas Westjet; Hawaiian Airlines, Island Air and Mesa Airlines are your inter-island flight experts.
