We took a day trip from Albuquerque to Santa Fe

We took a day trip from Albuquerque to Santa Fe on Saturday. We rode the Rail Runner which is the 'new' commuter/tourist train that goes from Santa Fe to Albuquerque. It cost $7 for a round trip ticket which is a bargain for the 55 mile one-way ride.

The morning was cool and brisk but other than that it was a nice day. We waited with about 40 other people to board at a stop near the Rio Grande not far from downtown.

The train was about late, but we didn't mind. We picked out some seats up top in one of the cars and enjoyed the ride.

We went through some Indian reservations and saw some areas we hadn't see before.

At times the tracks were near I-25 which is the main highway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Once we got to Santa Fe we wandered around and found the Santa Fe Society of Artists Art Show a couple of blocks off the Plaza.

Next we went to lunch at the Blue Corn Cafe. Nothing like a Tamale Combination Plate for lunch!

After that we went over to the Plaza and looked at the Indian jewelry on display in front of the Palace of the Governors.

Construction of the Palace began in 1610 with Pedro de Peralta. Today it is now part of the New Mexico State History Museum.

We wandered down the street past historic La Fonda Hotel and then to St. Francis of Assisi Church, which is really beautiful because it was build it 1851 so it has that beautiful look. We paused for a group photo in the park near the church.

It was a fun day and though a bit cool, it was a nice day for a day trip.
